The Harmonized Sales Tax (HST) replaces the federally administered Goods and Services Tax (GST)
and Provincial Sales Tax (PST) in participating provinces.
It is administered by the Canadian Revenue Agency (CRA).
When does the HST come into effect?
In British Columbia and Ontario, the HST will come into effect on July 1, 2010.
Other provinces, such as Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Newfoundland already have the HST.
Why do I have to pay the full HST on textbooks purchased through the LRC?
The LRC does not provide point-of-sale HST rebates.
How do I get reimbursed for the HST?
Certain goods may qualify for a rebate of the HST (either whole or in part). To find out more information on which
goods qualify or how to receive your rebate, please go to the CRA website:
http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/gncy/hrmnztn/menu-eng.html.
How will this affect my Early Order Discount (EOD) order?
If your EOD order is shipped prior to July 1, 2010, then you will be charged the GST and any applicable PST.
However if your EOD order is shipped on or after July 1, 2010, then your invoice will reflect the HST.
